Lemonade
5 lime or
lemon
1 orange
5 teaspoon sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
4-5 cardamom pods
5 glasses water
In a large
jar add water, sugar salt and stir well. Heat lime or lemonade in microwave
for 30 seconds. Cut into half, and squeeze out the juice into the jar.
Cut and squeeze the juice from the orange too. Remove the seeds from
the cardamom pods, and discard the skin. Crush these fragrant seeds
in a mortar and pestle. Add to the lemonade.
For serving,
dip the rim of the glass in water and then a plate of sugar. Add the
drink carefully to the glass without disturbing the sugarcoated edges.
Add the final garnish of thin lemon slice at the edge of glass.

Ginger
spiked Watermelon juice
2 inch knob
of ginger
10 cups of chopped watermelon
1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice
a pinch of salt
Peel and
grate the ginger with a grater. Squeeze the juice from the grated ginger
on the watermelon cubes, and discard the ginger pulp. In a blender add
the watermelon, lemon juice and salt. Make a smooth puree and serve.

Saffron-scented
Apple drink
1 16 oz apple
sauce ( unsweetened)
1 8 oz lemonade (frozen)
¼ teaspoon saffron
8 cardamom pods
½ cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
Soak saffron
threads in 1 tablespoon hot water. Keep aside. Peel cardamom pods remove
seeds and discard the skin. Coarsely grind the seeds in a mortar pestle
or a spice grinder.
In a large jug mix in applesauce, frozen lemonade, sugar and salt. Stir
well. Finally add cardamom powder and saffron. (Add sugar as per taste)
Hema's hints:
You may substitute
granny Smith apples in this recipe for Applesauce. Grate the apples
and make a puree in the blender. Frozen lemonade can be substituted
by juice of 8 lemons.

Mango
Lassi
1 16 oz alphonso mango
pulp
3 cups plain yogurt ( low fat)
2 cups milk ( low fat)
½ cup sugar
a pinch of salt
In a blender mix all
ingredients and serve chilled.

Herbal
Buttermilk
¼ cup cilantro
leaves chopped
one inch of ginger knob
1 green chili
1/8 teaspoon mint leaves
3 cups plain yogurt (low fat)
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon sugar
2 cups water
In a blender
add cilantro, ginger, chili, mint and ½ cup water. Make a smooth
paste. Add rest of the ingredients and blend for a minute. Strain the
buttermilk and serve chilled.
